The IFFR always lends Rotterdam a festive atmosphere, but this edition things were bigger than ever. Some of the city's buildings or institutions became festival locations to celebrate the IFFR's fortieth anniversary. These additional locations hosted, among other things, film screenings, exhibitions of video work or film-related art. A special XL pass gave visitors access to the XL locations during the festival.
XL doesn't just stand for the number 40, but also for "extra locations". For the duration of the festival 40 unique places in Rotterdam were transformed into festival locations.

ALL GREEK TO ME – NOT ALL GREEK TO ME
VIDEO ART FROM GREECE
Festival Miden presents a selection of videos by Greek contemporary artists, in two screening programs entitled "All Greek to Me" and "Not All Greek to Me".
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Festival Miden*, the first Greek video art festival presented in open public spaces, is an annual video art & new media cultural event held in Kalamata, GR.
The festival is founded, organized and curated by a team of contemporary Greek artists, who are all linked with Kalamata since childhood. It is an independent organization, supported by Kalamata's Historic Centre Organization, the Messinia Chamber of Commerce and the Municipality of Kalamata.
The main purpose of the festival is the free presentation, promotion and development of Greek and international video art and new media art, in times dominated and defined by "image" and "technology", creating a new, alternative, peripheral meeting point for emerging and established video and media artists from Greece and all over the world.
Since 2005, Festival Miden has been gradually established as one of the most successful and interesting video art festivals in Greece and abroad and has been a significant point of cultural exchange for Greek, European and international video art.
Festival Miden has presented screening programs, exhibitions and collaborations all over Greece, while collaborating with various art groups, art schools, art spaces, organizations and other festivals in Greece and internationally.
(*Miden means "zero" in Greek)

Attracted by the opposite?
Do people really feel attracted by the opposite? Black does not exist without white, good not without bad. The one is depending on the other. If an opposite is existing, at all, the existing "standard" is being defined via its opposite, which is setting the actual values, the relations between each other. Being attracted by the opposite is actually no more than searching consciously or unconsciously for the "whole", an attempt to find an unity combining and relating the two opposite poles to each other. An uptopia? The selection of videos is spotlighting not only the phenomenon of the duality from different points of views and positions, but also the resulting relativity.

ART BY CHANCE 2010 SELECTION \ TIME
Time stands still. Time passes. Time defines the balance humanity seeks to establish in modern life. Since the very rejection of time by primitive societies its concept has dramatically changed. Today our concepts of time play an important role in shaping the way in which we live our lives. Art by Chance 2010 has set out to explore how the perception of time is unique to every individual and how time can influence the narrative of city life, one of modern man's greatest challenges. Films touching the untouchable theme of time in their own time.
